Carmelo Hayes attacked Trick Williams, his longtime friend, at WWE NXT Vengeance Day.
Ilja Dragunov won the NXT Championship at the end of the premium event. Hayes and Williams hugged to end the show. But as the credits were being shown, Hayes suddenly clipped Williams’ leg, which had been injured earlier in night. Hayes then began to repeatedly strike Williams’ knee with the chair, until referees stopped him.
Williams has been trying to figure out for the last few months who attacked him in October backstage. Williams initially suspected Hayes but Hayes was able to direct the attention of Williams to Lexis King. Hayes and King fought at NXT Deadline, but King admitted he wasn’t the one behind the attack after Hayes won.
Hayes has been trying to convince Williams to give up his NXT Championship ambitions by securing them a place in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. Williams wanted to win the NXT Championship on Vengeance Day. However, he agreed to team up with Hayes in order to become a two-time NXT Champion. The team lost at the beginning of Vengeance day to Bron Breker and Baron Corbin.
