Netflix will debut a dramatic series about the career of Japanese women’s star Dump Matsumura this fall.

The streaming giant announced Wednesday that the five-part series would be released on Thursday, 19th September. It will focus on Matsumoto’s rise to fame in the 1970s & 1980s. The show was first announced in April.

From the 1970s to the 1980s, female tag teams such as “Beauty Pair”, (Jackie Sato & Maki Ueda), and “Crush gals”, (Chigusa & Lioness Asuka), became national icons. They captured Japan’s attention not only through their competition, but also by singing and performing in the ring. Dump Matsumoto was the sworn enemy of the “Crush Gals” and she caused havoc both inside and outside the ring. Dump Matsumoto, a young woman, was once told that she was too nice to be a villain. What made her one of Japanese wrestling’s most hated figures?”

Nagayo played a role behind the scenes in training actors and supervising the wrestling scenes.

Matsumoto, 63 years old, is still wrestling in Japan. However, she has only wrestled twice this year. In 1996, the All-Japan Women’s Pro Wrestling star was inducted into Wrestling Observer Hall of Fame.
