NJPW 52nd anniversary show to feature official match between champions in todays Wrestling news
The IWGP Heavyweight & Junior champions will face off in March.
The IWGP World Heavyweights and Junior Heavyweights champions will meet on March.
NJPW confirmed Sunday that the IWGP World Heavyweight champion will face the IWGP Junior Heavyweight champion in a one on one match on 6 March in Ota. In previous anniversary shows, champions have faced off against each other. The last match took place in 2021, when World Heavyweight Champion Kota Ibushi beat Junior Heavyweight Champion El Desperado.
The participants in this match will determined on the last two nights of The New Beginning Tour in Sapporo, on February 23 and 24, 2019. El Desperado will defend his IWGP Junior Heavyweight Title against SHO on February 23rd. Tetsuya Nito will defend his IWGP World Heavyweight Title against SANADA on February 24th.
In the first round of the New Japan Cup, David Finlay defeated Tomohiro Ishii and Shota Umino defeated Yujiro Tanahashi on last year’s anniversary. In the main event Bishamon (Hirooki Goto & YOSHIHASHI) defeated Kazuchika OKADA & Hirosh Tanahashi.
