AEW’s Tony Khan spoke for an hour to the media on Thursday to promote Forbidden Door. He answered questions about potential free-agents, the status Britt Baker and a positive note regarding Sunday’s live gate.
Khan joked about not negotiating on a media conference call when asked about his interest in Dijak, a free agent who will soon be free, and Becky Lynch. He never addressed either directly but remembered telling TBS in 2018 that wrestling free agency has never returned to the same level as in the 1990s. He believes that the movement of groups has been good for fans and business. Then he goes on to talk about his recent acquisitions, including Mercedes Mone and Will Ospreay.
Khan, when discussing injuries and getting back up to full strength in terms of injuries, said Britt Baker could be returning “shortly” after being injured. He also mentioned Kenny Omega and Adam Cole as people he was excited to bring back to the company and bring it to full strength.
He also said that Sunday’s live gate was approaching $1 million, and 10,000 tickets were sold. This would be the third occasion in the event’s short history that it has reached this financial mark.
Khan concluded the call by comparing it to a football game, saying that they were close (in the red zone) to signing their new media rights agreement.
