Tony Khan thinks AEW is the best women’s wrestler in the world at the moment.
The AEW president recently appeared on WGN Radio and praised the efforts of Toni Storm and Mercedes Mone as well as other wrestlers from his women’s division. He said that this was the best ever.
Khan said, “I think that right now, across the board, everyone thinks that this is by far and away the best wrestling ever in the history of AEW’s women’s division. I think we are having the best women wrestling in the entire world right now.”
“There is more competition, more talent and more big matches in the AEW Women’s Division than ever before.” I think 2024 was the best year for the AEW women’s division. I give a lot of credit to ‘Timeless Toni Storm’, the World Champion, and Mercedes Mone, the TBS Champion. I also give a lot of credit to Kris Statlander and Willow Nightingale.
Forbidden door will host two women’s title fights. Storm will defend her title in a title vs. a title match against Mina Shirakawa, and Mone will wrestle NJPW’s Strong Women’s Championship Stephanie Vaquer.
Khan said that Forbidden Door featured two of the best women’s championship matches in history. “To have AEW Women’s world champion, ‘Timeless Toni Storm’, an icon in the cinema and the pro wrestling ring, taking on Mina Shirakawa, a match the fans absolutely want. And a great story has been developing between Toni and Mina and their shared love of Mariah May.”
“And now that the TBS Champion and the face of AEW, Mercedes Mone has come to AEW and won the TBS Championship and is the face our channel. She’s going to face one of the top international wrestling stars, Stephanie Vaquer.”
