According to reports, the NDAs that a number of women signed with Vince McMahon in secret were created and entered into without WWE’s knowledge. McMahon went so far as signing them on behalf of the company.
Tim Marchman of VICE reported that the report was from a “person familiar with the situation”. He added that this detail is why WWE had to revise their earnings statements after the scandal that broke out in the summer 2022 when McMahon’s hush-money payments to women that he allegedly sexually abused became public.
Marchman, after speaking with several legal experts reported that the terms of the NDAs mentioned above are likely unenforceable. In Janel Grant’s case, McMahon’s payment of $1 million out of the $3,000,000 agreed upon likely renders any deal null.
Grant made a detailed complaint last week against McMahon and WWE. He accused McMahon and John Laurinaitis of sex abuse and sex traficking.

“A NDA cannot be used to prevent a victim bringing criminal charges against them or speaking with investigators.” It’s not clear if these women or others wish to speak out publicly or bring civil lawsuits, but it’s not clear if an agreement like the Grant signed would prevent this.
Edward Brennan, Laurinaitis’ lawyer, told VICE that they would “go wherever the evidence leads” to determine whether other executives of WWE were aware of and involved in the allegations made by Grant during her three-year stint with WWE.
Then, it was revealed that McMahon had signed secret agreements on behalf of the company without their knowledge and after consulting with long-time lawyer Jerry McDevitt.
Goldberg described the apparent conflict of interest as “bizarre” when a source familiar with this matter said that the contract was executed. McMahon signed the contract in secret on behalf of both himself and WWE, after consulting his longtime lawyer, Jerry McDevitt.
Goldberg is Carrie Goldberg who was interviewed for this article. She represented victims of Harvey Weinstein. She also noted that McMahon did not sign the copy Grant filed as part of the lawsuit, “either in his personal capacity or as then-chairman of WWE”, as “normally all parties would receive a signed copy of the contract.”
McMahon resigned as executive chairman of TKO last Friday, one day after the lawsuit was made public. On Friday it was revealed that McMahon had been under federal investigation since 2022 for the allegations.
